As we approach Shabbat, we prepare to enter not just a new week but also a potentially very significant week for the Jewish Community of Central Florida. On Monday night, the City Council of Maitland is scheduled to vote on the zoning change needed for the sale of our vacant campus building. This sale will enable the remaining debt on the campus to be retired, and for the first time since the 1980s our Jewish Community Campus will be debt-free!

Like all things of value, this moment has taken the entire community working together to arrive. We needed the leadership who in 2016 undertook the Campus 2020 campaign, designed to ensure the debt was retired by 2020. For this moment to arrive, we needed the generous donors who invested their dollars for the future of our community. We needed the generosity and vision of both the Harris Rosen Foundation and the Jewish Community Alliance, both of which provided matching funds to help inspire donors and agencies to work toward retiring this debt.

Now we need YOU!

Monday night at Maitland City Hall, the City Council will hold the final public hearing on the zoning change. We are asking you to come to the meeting and show your support. While the meeting begins at 6:30 p.m., we are asking people to be there at 7:30 so the City Council sees the support for this effort. When they vote later that night, we want them to look out at packed room of supporters so they understand how important this is for the Jewish community.

I hope to see all of you at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Maitland City Hall. (I hope you have trouble finding a seat because so many of you will have packed the hall).

Monday is an important day for our Central Florida Jewish Community. Your presence will be yet another show of unity as we craft a bright and exciting future together!
