Temple Israel Shabbaton
Saturday, Nov 16 @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Enjoy a family-friendly day of learning, spirituality, and kosher dining at Temple Israel’s Shabbaton on November 16, 2019. All events are held at the synagogue, located at 50 S. Moss Road in Winter Springs.
The Shabbaton is open to the entire community and begins with a kosher dairy lunch in the Roth Social Hall at 12:30 p.m. after Shabbat services.
After lunch, adults choose one of the following two options for the first learning session from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m.: “Jewish Pirates of the Caribbean” with Rollins College Associate Professor of International Business & Finance Marc Sardy or “The Musar Movement and the Power of Positive Psychology” with Jewish Academy of Orlando Head of School Alan Rusonik. The second adult session runs from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., and participants can either attend “Antisemitism on U.S. College Campuses” with Central Florida Hillel Executive Director Aaron Weil or “Fresh, Flavorful Israeli Salads” with Former Brown’s Deli Owner Lauren Brown.
During the adult learning sessions, kids will enjoy a visit with the Tzofim Israeli Scouts, a scavenger hunt, and cookie decorating with Purple Tulip Artisan Cookies. Children and adults will then regroup to work on a mitzvah project for Russell Home from 3:30 to 4 p.m. Shabbat’s third meal, a kosher dairy delight catered by Sage, is from 4 to 5 p.m. and includes salads, quiche, focaccia, grilled salmon, and desserts. Mincha starts at 5:30 p.m., followed by a “twilight talk” with Rabbi Joshua Neely and Maariv. The day ends with Havdallah at 6:30 p.m.
Babysitting is available for children up to five years old. Registration is $15 for individuals and $36 for families with up to five members.
